Finally these states have come together to allow sleds to ride with a valid registration (Vermont also requires proof of insurance) into any of the three adjoining states this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (JAN 27/28/29).

With a forecast for 4 to 8 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow morning, conditions should be near peak. Although our cabins are fully booked for the weekend, we will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner by advance reservation as usual.

ITS84 from Oquossoc was groomed last night by RLSC and Eben is doing a great job keeping the trail in the best possible condition. We are expecting a very busy weekend and look forward to seeing some old friends and new faces alike.

Snoedeo in Rangeley will be underway today with demo booths at Rev-it-Up, Oquossoc Marine and Boss Power Equipment. The Rave-X show starts at 5PM with the Welcome to Snodeo with a Bowl-A-Thon will begin at 4PM at Moose Alley. Hope everyone enjoys this year's events.

Did you notice that we received another 3 inches of snow Tuesday Night? Load up the sled and come ride. Back country snow depths are greater than three feet in some places and the groomer from Oquossoc came through last night on ITS84.

Was Friday the 13th your lucky day? It was here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps since we received another 8 inches of snow overnight Friday. That's right, they predicted maybe 3 but we woke to 8 inches instead. I guess we are going to make up for lost riding quickly.

Needless to say, our dining room was very busy and seemed like it was THE place to be yesterday. Reports from the trail were all exceptional. Deep powder in the back country and fabulous groomed trails. RLSC's groomer completed a round trip on Friday night, so ITS84 was in mint condition for Saturday riding. It was nice to see many of our returning guests and for those who ventured this way yet, we hope to see you soon.

Finally the snow has arrived in sufficient quantity. Bosebuck Mountain Camps received at least 8 inches of fresh snow yesterday with light snow showers through most of the night. The forecast is calling for a second system to travel through today which may result in another 3 inches.

The new groomer operator from RLSC, who runs from Oquossoc to Bosebuck and back, made his first trip on Wednesday with another planned for today. The regular schedule for grooming ITS 84 should the same as last year, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights.

Our dining room is open and well stocked serving breakfast from 7AM to 10AM, and lunch daily from 11AM to 3PM. Dinner at 6PM is available by advance reservation of least 24 hours.

2011/2012 RLSC Trail maps should arrive at some point today and we are still a Maine snowmobile registration station (CASH ONLY). We also have gasoline for sale which must be pre-paid in the lodge.

Let's not count our snowballs before we can throw them but..... the forecast is looking great! Finally a real snowstorm due to arrive late tonight and into the day tomorrow with possible accumulations of 6 to 12 inches.

The Rangeley Club has opened some trails north of town and we have had sleds in from Oquossoc already. For current trails conditions rangeleysnowmobile.com/conditions.htm Trails have a good solid base so the expected snowfall will only improve conditions tremendously.

For all you back country riders, reports yesterday and today are snow knee deep or better in the elevations. Please remember that Greentop Road, Lincoln Pond Road, Canada Road into Bowmantown and some roads in Bowmantown have been plowed so PLEASE do not ride on these or any other plowed road. The landowners extend the privilege of access to ride this great country so let's not loose the opportunity by riding where we shouldn't.

We had an OK weekend with riders from both Maine and New Hampshire. Most were pleasantly surprised with the conditions and amount of snow they encountered. Higher elevations and back country riders found spots with at least a foot of powder to ride.

The Rangeley Club should be starting their grooming operations soon and Pittsburgh is active on about 75% of their system.

The extended forecast for this week is snow and/or snow showers everyday so load up the sleds and head north.

Good News, it's snowing again today and we picked up 3 inches yesterday. With that in mind here is an update of current trail conditions;

Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club has given the green light to open ITS 84 on this end tomorrow (Saturday, January 7th) but it will NOT be groomed. Bosebuck Mountain Camps will be open tomorrow for breakfast from 7AM to 10AM and lunch from 11AM to 3PM.

Pittsburgh Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club will be opening about 75% of their trail system tomorrow and will be grooming to the state line.

Let the riding begin.

We welcomed the new year with guests, friends, a great bonfire, champagne toast and fireworks at midnight. Happy New Year and may it be healthy and prosperous for all.

As you can see from the webcams, we still do not have sufficient snow to sled so the trails remain closed. We have had some rain overnight, but do have light snow falling this morning with temps around 32 degrees.

Although you can't sled, you can still hunt coyotes and/or snowshoe hare. Due to the lack of deep accumulated snow on the ground, conditions are just about perfect for hunting either species and we do have a few bait sites for coyotes. Pack up your gear and dogs and give us a call to take advantage of these unusual conditions.

Well, with the thermometer reading 3 degrees this morning, we are all set for a white Christmas here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. We did receive another 4 inches of snow yesterday, but with the previous rain on Wednesday, the amount on the ground is still not sufficient to ride. It will be a quiet day, but do not despair, the snow and cold temps are here to stay and I anticipate trails will open as soon as it is safe to do so. Yes, we have snow on the ground (about 4-5 inches). Yes, it's cold (5 below zero this morning). Yes, the rivers have frozen over and even this end of the lake (for the third time this season already). That's the good news. The not so good news..., not enough snow yet, so the trails are NOT open. We have had light snow flurries for the past couple days and it appears the weather pattern is finally turning to winter. I'll keep you posted on conditions.

It's finally beginning to look like winter here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. We now have measurable snowfall and I was able to start the 2011/2012 snowfall total chart. Although we won't be sledding this weekend, (YES, we have received several calls already inquiring about sledding conditions) we have 6 inches of snow on the ground, temps below freezing and light snow falling.

Don't forget that a Bosebuck Gift Certificate is available in any dollar amount and can be emailed or sent regular mail and still received prior to Christmas. You know it's the right size and won't end up the "gifts to return" pile.

The calendar is telling me that it's December 6th but the thermometer is reading 38 degrees and it's raining. So we have no snow, no ice and no leaves on the trees. Bad news for sledding, but great news for the late season bird hunters. We have almost perfect conditions for grouse hunting right now, with plenty of birds and cabins available. Don't hang up that shotgun just yet.

It doesn't take long for the lake to freeze and I have seen it catch overnight. The extended forecast is calling for much colder temps with snow showers coming in on Thursday through the weekend. Although we won't be sledding this weekend, cross your fingers and do your snow dance.

Most of the 6 inches of snow we received last Wednesday has disappeared and left mud in it's place. We still have a little ice in the river and a small section floating in the lake in front of camp. The forecast for this week is a bit warmer than normal (highs in the 40's, but overnight lows are expected to fall below freezing. Perhaps the ground will freeze and give us a good base for the upcoming snowmobile season.

Muzzle loader for deer will open tomorrow to complete the 2011 deer hunting season ob December 10th. We have registered 28 deer to date and hope to tag a few more in this final week.

Don't forget we have Gift Certificates in any amount for that hard to buy for person on your Christmas list. You can stuff in their stocking or wrap in a big box to keep them guessing until the 25th.

I was going to begin this post stating that I awoke to 10.6 degrees and an iced over river except once I thought it over I realized that it was pitch black this morning when I came down to lodge at 4:30AM to start breakfast. Since deer season is well underway and the hunters like to hit the woods early, breakfast begins at 5AM. Now that I have my timeline re-established, I can tell you that when the sun finally came over the mountain, I could see the iced over river and ice in the lake. As I write this post at 8:16AM the temp has risen to 15 degrees and there is not a cloud to be found in the sky. It is definitely a frosty morning with snow in the forecast! I guess I will need to start this year's snow total page if the weather forecast is correct.

I have to say congratulations to Paul Vozzella who took home his first buck and I'm sure he and his Dad, Phil have retold the story at least a hundred times already. See you next year!

Bosebuck Mountain Camps is a Maine IF&W game registration station and we have already tagged 22 deer this season with the largest being a 10 pointer, weighing in at 271 pounds.

As you can see from today's webcam photos, the dock, boathouse and boats have been stored for the winter. Mike's chore list for winter preparation is well underway and everyone is busy making it happen. Last week we had snow on the ground and cold temps usual for November in Maine. Today is a different story with a current temp of 63 degrees here at camp as I write this post. That's just crazy!

We have a full camp next week for deer hunting with a mix of returning guests and new visitors alike looking for some new territory to hunt. Best of luck to one and all.

Deer season for Maine residents opens this Saturday with non-residents joining in on Monday the 31st. We do have some cabins available for the second and fourth weeks of the deer season still available, so give us a call if you can squeeze in a few days of hunting the big woods of Maine for whitetail.

It's also that time of year when the woodshed has been filled, the stoves have been lit and the white stuff made it's arrival this morning. No accumulation, but you know it's just around the corner. Now is the time to be making your winter reservations or consider a seasonal rental trail side right hear at Bosebuck. Call for details.

Congratulations to 11 year old Orion who filled his moose tag in the last hour of the last day of the season. Mom & Dad put in a tremendous amount of hours to create a wonderful memory for him.

I must say that bird season has been great. We have been hosts to a number of guests that are experiencing grouse hunting in the western Maine mountains for the first time. Dallas, Tyler and Mike will be travelling back to Ohio with plenty of birds and stories to tell their hunting buddies.

I happened to look out the kitchen window late yesterday morning and saw this family grazing at the shoreline. I was lucky enough to capture this shot before they headed back into the woods.

We had our first real frost at camp this morning with a low of 25.8 degrees at 5:30AM. I guess it's time to pack away the shorts and get out the long-johns.

Mike and I are happy to announce the birth of our new grandson, John Robert Chase (Loralie's little brother). We greeted him on September 26th at 6:26PM. He weighed 8.2 pounds, is 21 inches long and as you can see has lots of dark brown hair. Everybody is happy, healthy and headed home today.

Fall foliage is near peak here at camp as evidenced by this photo I just captured from the front porch even though the temperature (71) and humidity (80%) feel like the middle of summer.

Fall fishing has been fabulous in part due to cool overnight temps and rainfall but don't despair we still have a another week to go before the season closes next Friday, September 30th. Bird season will open the following day on Saturday, October 1st so call to book your cabin today.

Just when we start to see a hint of Fall color in the trees, experience cooler overnight temps, smell that crispness in the air and think that summer is coming to an end, today we have a current temperature here at camp of 79 degrees and humidity of 64%. I wonder if this is how it feels in the south?

Putting all the weather issues aside the calendar still says its September 4th, kids have or will soon be headed back to school and we have completed the first week of bear season in WMD #7. Congratulations to Carl on his successful hunt here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Our next group of six hunters as well as fall fishermen will be arriving today.

Speaking of fall fishing, hurricane Irene brought us some much needed rain to fill the rivers, lakes and streams. Bodes well for the fall fishing.

Hurricane Irene did not spoil this beautiful wedding on Saturday, August 27th here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Congratulations Matthew & Amy, we wish you all the best and a long, happy life together.

Speaking of the hurricane, we only received about 3 inches of rain and moderate winds yesterday and into the overnight. The skies are already beginning to clear and the current temperature is 57 degrees. Web cams are down due to software issues, but our satellite Internet service has been restored.

The summer has been beautiful but dry and Bosebuck Mountain Camps has been filled with an abundance of families enjoying the great outdoors together. We welcomed back some old friends and met new families too.

Yesterday and again today the much needed rain has been falling, although the skies are beginning to brighten and I see some patches of blue appearing as well. Both the fish and fishermen will be happy with any amount of rain Mother Nature sends our way.

Just a reminder, due to private functions, Casting for Recovery and my son's wedding, Bosebuck Mountain Camps will not be open to the public this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (19th, 20th, 21st) and the following Friday and Saturday (26th & 27th). We are happy to accept reservations for lodging or dinner from the general public on any other days.

Also, due to cancellation, we have some limited openings for bear hunts. The season opens on August 29th and runs for four weeks. Call or email if you thought you missed the boat and would like to experience a great Maine Black Bear Hunt this year.

Bosebuck Mountain Camps 07-04-2011

The fog has burned off since I snapped this photo earlier this morning and temps have already reached a very humid 73 degrees. We have several families in camp this week and they are all out and about enjoying the great outdoors, in boats, kayaks, and fishing right off the dock.

New Neighbors

Yesterday, on the first day of summer 2011, we were visited by our two new neighbors; M4 and S4. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that two eagles hatched, not one as previusly thought. Bill and Mike were kind enough to once again allow us to participate in the banding process which took place right here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps.

Both eagles were measured, weighed, banded and returned to their nest safe and sound all under the watchful eyes of their parents who were never very far away.

Although we have escaped the majority of the rain in the past few days, and even had sunshine with blue skies for a portion of the day yesterday, a light drizzle is falling this morning accompanied by a heavy overcast. The fishermen say these are perfect conditions for fishing except for the high water.Water temps have fluctuated in the forties and the rivers are certainly rushing.

Paramachenee Road is in typical spring condition with lots of pot holes and very soft shoulders. Repairs have begun, so if you are driving in, be sure to keep a watchful eye for truck/equipment traffic and operation in the roadway. You should allow at least 45 minutes for travel into camp.

Yes, the fishermen arrived on Monday morning eager to launch their boats and wet a line. Air temps have been in the low 50's, high 40's but windy which makes it a little less pleasant on the water but they are all happy to be here.

Just a reminder that Bosebuck Mountain Camps is located 13 miles in from the paved road (Route 16) and we are operating under spring road conditions. For those of you travelling into camp for the first time, that means lots of pot holes, sunken culverts and washouts. Although a 4-wheel drive vehiclee may not be necessary, it certainly is suggested especially if you plan on travelling further u into Parmachenee.

Of course we need to give a big THANK YOU to all our friends, family and staff who helped us work our way through the spring project list; Jerry, John, Bill, Nancy, Jake, Mike O., Rick, Chip, Michael, David, Shannon, Chad and Dana. If I forgot anyone, please know we appreciate all your help. We certainly couldn't do this all alone.

Signs of Spring

I have compiled a short list of what I believe to be sure signs that spring has finally arrived at Bosebuck Mountain Camps:

You can now step over the remaining snow banks
There is not enough snow to snowmobile safely
The ice has finally given way and we have open water at the north end of the lake
The loons have returned and are pleasantly calling to each other
The pair of geese that like to call Bosebuck home have returned to make a mess of what little grass we have that isn't under water
The front lawn and parking lot are completely under water
The average temperature is above freezing even though there is still a chance of snow
We have mud!

Our fishermen will begin arriving on Monday, May 9th and the dining room should be open to the public as well but call ahead just to be sure.

Parmachenee Road is in typical spring condition with some sunken culverts and washouts, but all in all not too bad. Just take your time and plan on 45 minutes to an hour to travel into Bosebuck. The road above camp had three feet of water flowing over it last week so it was not passable. We do not have current conditions of the road above us or on the east side of the lake.

Honey I'm Home!

Yes, vacation is over and we have returned to camp refreshed and ready to go. The weather could have been a little more welcoming; nothing but snow, wind and rain since we arrived. I miss the warm sun and temps in the 80's & 90's we left behind. But there's nothing like sleeping in your own bed and waking up in such beautiful country.

Of course the project list is well under way and if the weather will cooperate, a little painting is in order too.

The fishermen are anxious to drop a line, but the ice has not yet given way so keep watching the webcams for up to the minute action. Speaking of the webcams, it captured this shot just this morning of an eagle right here on the shore at camp. The time stamp is wrong (computer software is not my friend) but thanks to Trish for sending me an email with this photo as the attachment to bring to my attention. I just don't have the time to always be looking out the window.

to all our guests for another great winter season here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Although the snow arrrived a little late in the season and has decided to hang around into the spring (yes, it's snowing again right now), we have managed to work our way through our fourth winter.

Mike and I are headed out of camp tomorrow for a little R&R. Chad, Shannon and Jerry will be holding down the fort in our absence. Although the dining room is now closed, gas for your sled will still be available from 7AM to 7PM.

For all you fishermen, we have turned webcam2 toward the lake so you can watch for "ice-out". If you want to make a reservation, do not hesitate to call or email with your dates.

It may be April 1st but this picture is no joke. We have heavy snowfall as I write this post at 7:30AM. The forecast is calling for 8 to 12 inches of fresh snow today and into tomorrow. Mother Nature is really being stubborn this year.

Just a reminder that our dining room will close for the winter season this Sunday, April 3rd at 3PM. Gas for your sled will still be available from 7AM to 7PM as long as the snow holds out.

Spring may have arrived in your neck of the woods, but winter still has a firm hold on Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Riders experienced some of the best conditions of the entire season this past weekend. Temps in the twenties, smooth, freshly groomed trails and low traffic all added up to a perfect day of riding.

The current temperature is 20 degrees with light snow showers and the 5-Day forecast is calling for much of the same for the entire week except Wednesday which will be sunny with temps in the mid thirties.

Big Buck dining room will be closing for 2010-2011 winter season this coming Sunday, April 3rd at 3PM. We will continue to be available for gas ONLY from 7AM to 7PM as long as the snow holds out.

No lodging will be available from April 3rd through May 6th, 2011 (unless ice-out comes early), but please call to reserve your spring fishing and summer vacation dates quickly as many of our dates have already been filled.

I seem to have weathered the storm of technical difficulties and the Internet and webcams are now all up and running. I'm still working on the weather station and hope to resolve that issue this week too! I know you fishermen will be watching for ice out and air temps so I'll do my best.

Please note we are still experiencing some technical difficulties and currently the webcams are NOT updating to the website. We are working to correct the situation and will get them going as soon as we can because we know how important they are to you and our business.

I can tell you that all reports from the trail are very positive. Some of the comments just this morning are "best riding of the year", "doesn't get any better than this", "the lake is smooth and fast'. The groomer from Oquossoc came through Tuesday night and we are expecting him again tonight.

The current temperatureis 28 degrees with cloudy skies and light snowfall. We expect similar conditions throughout the weekend with overnight temps in the teens, low twenties.

Internet Service Restored

Yeah! our Internet service was re-established as of 3PM today. The modem decided to fry itself on Friday afternoon and of course no service calls on the weekends. Anyway, we survived being "unplugged" but are very glad everything seems to be back to normal. Now if I can just get the weather station to upload to our website I will be a happy girl.

Speaking of reasons to be happy, we received about 6 inches of snow overnight and had light snow falling throughout the day. The extended forecast is calling for below freezing temps through this weekend and another storm on Thursday with accumulating snow. Don't miss out on this spring riding, there is plenty of snow still to enjoy.

It's snowing, I went for a ride, the eagles are back

That's right, it's snowing here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps this morning with a current temperature of 22 degrees and overcast skies. Most of you have been experiencing "spring like" conditions this past week but we are definitely still in winter mode having received nearly two feet of fresh snow in the last week and a half.

Finally after four winters at Bosebuck, I got on a sled yesterday afternoon with Michael and he took me for a ride on the new trail, around the top of lake and back down the Sunday Pond trail. I must say the view was spectacular, the weather perfect and now I can truly understand why so many people ride even when the temps are below zero. The new trail will be a great hike this summer too.

Yes, that's right, I saw a pair of eagles yesterday afternoon at this end of the lake and they were sitting in the same trees favored by the pair we had build a nest on the island last year. I'm hoping it is the same pair and they will make this there home again this year. We certainly had a bird's eye view (no pun intended) of their activities last year and I thought the trials and tribulations 2010 would be a "once in a lifetime" event but maybe not.

We had a cold start to the day today here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. The low was 3 degrees and with current reading of 8 degrees above zero. The trails should have set-up overnight so we are expecting some riders today since the sun is shining full force. It's shaping up to perfect conditions for a ride today. Plenty of snow in the back country although the trails have some thin spots here & there.

Just a reminder that we will be closing for mud season on Sunday, April 3rd and will reopen for fishing season on Friday, May 8th, 2011. Until then, we will be open daily for food and gas as usual.

That's right, another 6 inches of snow today and we still have light snow falling. Current temperature is 30 degrees with winds 7 to 12 MPH from the south. I hope these winds are NOT bringing warmer temps because we want to keep our snow just a bit longer. Eve if the mercury rises, we have enough snow on the ground for plenty of riding.

ITS 84 from Oquossoc was groomed last night as was the Bosebuck Trail and Sunday Pond trail. Conditions are set for a great weekend of riding. The extended forecast (after the mess coming & going tomorrow) is calling for temps in the high 20's with snow showers on Saturday and Sunday. Load up the sled and head out. Prime Rib, Swordfish or Baked Rigatoni for dinner on Saturday at 6PM. If you are not a lodging guest but will be in the area, call at least 24 hours ahead to make your reservation. You'll be glad you did.

Also, for all you fishermen out there getting that itch, our spring dates are filling fast, so call now so you don't miss out on that early run. By the looks of the calendar, our last day of the winter season will be Sunday, April 3rd if the trails hold out and we will re-open on Friday May 6th as long as the ice has cleared.

Sunny but cold would best describe the day so far. The storm has finally passed by after leaving 18 inches or more of fresh snow in it's wake. The task now is to find a place to put it all. We experienced below zero temperatures overnight, but already the mercury has climbed to 8 degrees above zero. The sun is out in full force and it seems as though we haven't seen it in so long I thought for a moment I may have been living underground. I just might need sunglasses on inside today from the glare bouncing off the snow into the lodge. Let me be perfectly clear though, that is NOT a complaint. The sun feels good and I'm sure all the sled-heads will agree.

The groomer from Oquossoc made a complete trip yesterday. Due to the heavy, accumulating snow, it took him nearly 10 hours just to get to Bosebuck and I'm not sure how long to make the return trip, but THANK YOU! Those guys put in a lot of time to make the trail system what it is and for all of us to enjoy. If you happened upon a donation bucket, feel free to drop in your change.

Good news, bad news - yes, it rained here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps starting late Saturday and most of the day Sunday but (and that's a big BUT) it turned to snow late yesterday afternoon and snowed all night.

All the rain made for some slippery exits from camp yesterday, but everyone made it home safely without incident.

We have 12 inches on the ground now and it's still coming down. I know we had a lot of snow before I even ventured outside when I looked out the window to see Chad, shovel in hand, strapped into his snow shoes to begin the day's work. He and Mike will be clearing snow all day today.

C-O-L-D spells cold and here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps this morning that means 22.5 degrees below zero. I don't think the snow will be going away anytime soon with those temperatures. The sun is shining in a brilliant blue sky with only a few puffy white clouds to be seen. The snowmobilers tell me that they dress for this weather so the cold doesn't bother them and trails will be perfect riding today. I guess I better eat a good breakfast in preparation for a busy lunch.

Here we are on the last day of February and it has been snowing all day. At least 6 inches on the ground as I post this update and it is just now picking up speed. Mike just started plowing and Chad is on the working end of the shovel. Me, I'm in the kitchen starting another apple crisp and not straying to far from the woodstove.

Current temperature is 30 degrees and the weather forecast predicted 6 to 10 inches which seems to be spot on so far. Hopefully no rain this far north.

The groomer completed his rounds last night so trail conditions are great. Sounds like perfect conditions for spring riding.

Here we are near the end of another week and month for that matter. It has been very busy here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps this past week with school vacations bringing many families outdoors to enjoy the wonders of winter. Even the frigid 15 degrees below zero recorded yesterday morning, didn't keep them away as the sun quickly brought the temps into the twenties. Perfect conditions for a ride.

Big Buck Dining Room has been filled to capacity nearly every day this week and all our cabins are occupied for this weekend. Perhaps this is a sign that the economy is starting to take the upward turn we have all been waiting for.

Speaking of waiting, the skies this morning are overcast, looking heavy and ready to release another snow storm. The forecast is predicting 6 to 10 inches of snow starting at about mid-morning and continuing throughout the day. We'll have to wait and see what actually falls and accumulates as sometimes the prediction does not materialize. But with a current temperature of 27 degrees, we should a significant amount.

If you thought Spring had sprung you thought wrong. After two days of temps in the 40's we awoke this morning to 21 degrees and blowing snow. These colder temps are forecast for the entire week, so pack up that sled and head north.

All reports from the trails are good, great, excellent conditions. The warm-up actually helped to settle the snow and riding is just wonderful.

Yes, another inch or so of fresh snow overnight accompanied by below zero temperatures. The groomer from Oquossoc completed his trip so trails are groomed, setup and topped with a little fresh powder just to keep the sleds cool. The sun is shining and temperatures have climbed to 12 degrees above zero already, so the day is shaping up to be picture perfect for a trail ride or back country adventure.

The Eastern Fishing & Outdoor Expo in Worcester, MA opens today and believe it or not Mike has travelled to the big city to man the booth along with Rick Estes and Jack Baltz. Mike brought a little bit of Bosebuck with him for the booth display so if you get a chance to experience the show, please stop by and say hello to the guys. It's Super Snow Sunday here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Rather than kicking back and watching the big game, the guys will be plowing, shoveling, snowblowing and just moving snow out of the way. We received a good 8 inches of heavy snow overnight with light snow showers still falling this morning. Our current temperature is 24 degrees with wind from the north/northeast.

Finally, some groomable snow and just as important our grand-daughter has been waiting for "snowman" snow so she can build a big snowman. Well, I think today will be the day for that.

We sure do, 17 inches have fallen since Tuesday. What a nice way to start the new month. Tuesday's storm only gave us an inch, which was a little disappointing, but yesterday and all through the night the white stuff just kept piling up. If that isn't enough, the groomer from Oquossoc came in about 10:00 o'clock last night so the trails must be in awesome condition. If you're done shoveling where you are, load up the sled and head north.

Thankfully the sub-zero temperatures have moved along and we are at a balmy 15 degrees with light snow falling this morning. We received an inch overnight with an additional two inches on Wednesday. The groomer from Oquossoc made a complete trip on Wednesday too so ITS84 from Rangeley, the Bosebuck trail and connector to NH 20 are all in good shape.

Please keep in mind when traveling into camp by vehicle that there are active logging operations at various locations. Therefore you may encounter heavy truck traffic, even on weekends on the road. Be watchful and take it slow.

Cabins for February vacation are going fast, so if you are planning on spending time at Bosebuck, call soon so you are not left out in the cold.

Yes, it was cold, cold here this morning at 20.8 degrees below zero without the windchill, but with the sun shining in a bright blue sky we have already warmed to 12 below. Yeah, I know, it's a heat wave for sure so I am, of course, hugging the woodstove this morning.

The groomer from Oquossoc completed three trips this past week on Wednesday, Thursday and again on Saturday night to keep the trails in top notch condition. With these cold temps and snow in the forecast this week, we have no need to worry about trail conditions. Call for your cabin today so you don't miss out on some great riding.

Hello Bosebuck followers. Yes, we have snow (about 8 inches) and the good stuff at that. The groomer is scheduled to make his appointed rounds this evening just in time to kick off Snowdeo in Rangeley tomorrow.

Ann and I will be defending the Bosebuck title for best medium chili at the Chili-Chowder Cook-off being held tomorrow night beginning at 6PM at Moose Alley (formerly the Clubhouse ). Cost is $9.00 per person and we would love to see you there. Come sample some of the best chili & chowder the area restaurants have to offer and cast your vote for your favorite.

Or, if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Snowdeo, hop on your sled and take a ride to Bosebuck and visit us right here at camp. We are about a 40 mile ride by sled from Rangeley and will be serving lunch daily from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

We do have a few cabins available too if you need a place to stay for the weekend. Rates are $39.00 (plus tax & gratuity) per person, per night with a two night minimum stay required. Meals are not included, but all are available for purchase in Big Buck Dining Room.

A respectable amount of snow has finally arrived at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Although it was late to the party, not really accumulating until 1:00 yesterday afternoon, it continued snowing throughout the afternoon, the night and is still snowing this morning. We received at least a foot, if not more, as it is difficult to determine the exact amount due to strong winds and drifting.

Of course Mike is out plowing, which will keep him busy for several hours. I would post a picture, but it's still to dark outside, so check the webcams after reading this if you haven't already.

Finally some snow! Although we only received about an inch overnight, it's still snowing here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps this morning. The current temperature is 23 degrees with a light wind from the northeast.

We did have some sleds in yesterday who told us the trails are in OK condition, frozen but bumpy and in need of some nice powder. Heavy traffic areas are thin and even bare in some spots, but overall not bad for the amount of snow (or lack thereof) that we have on the ground.

Back country riding is decent, but of course the more snow the more fun. For those of you headed to Bosebuck from the Pittsburgh area, you are better off to travel around the top of the lake toward Rangeley and take the shortcut across the lake rather than the new trail due to lack of snow and active logging operations.

Happy New Year from Bosebuck Mountain Camps! We had a full camp this past weekend that rang in the new year with a big lakeside bonfire and champagne toast at midnight.

Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday reached nearly 40 degrees accompanied by light rain yesterday afternoon which put a hurt on the snow accumulation and trail conditions.

The good news is, it's snowing right now and the current temp is 20 degrees with overcast skies. The extended forecast is calling for snow showers all this week and perhaps a storm on Friday into Saturday with measurable snow. Everybody cross your fingers that Mother Nature sends the white gold our way.

With the high winds, it's difficult to to accurately measure accumulation, but so far we have received at least 8 inches on the ground. The groomer from Rangeley made a round trip yesterday in advance of the snow to condition the trail so now that the snow has arrived, we should be in great shape. Come an enjoy the great outdoors.

The first full day of winter and it's snowing here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. The snow flakes are almost microscopic in size however and not really amounting to any accumulation. We are keeping an eye out to the north, northwest waiting for the arrival of the backlash of the storm off the east coast. If this one doesn't arrive, another is in the forecast for early next week. We do not have enough snow on the ground yet to groom, but keep your chin up, it's coming.

For those of you heading into camp, please remember that there are active logging operations north of us and you will meet truck traffic coming & going on Parmachenee Road.

Yes, it's snowing at Bosebuck Mountain Camps and has every day since that horrendous rain storm came through Sunday night. Although our snow total indicates 1 foot 11 inches, in reality we have just about 6 inches on the ground this morning. Our snow total chart tracks total snow as it is received and does not not take into account any melting or loss.

Yes, you can ride the Maine trails since it is after the 15th however the groomers will not be out until we have more snow on the ground. The Pittsburgh area hopes to open some trails today too.

Yesterday morning at this time it was 50 degrees and raining but thankfully the temperature fell throughout the day and as night approached the rain turned to snow. We awoke this morning to a white landscape again having received just over an inch of crusty snow overnight. Unfortunately, we did loose all that had been on the ground. The good news is, is that it should remain cold all week and we are expecting snow showers everyday.

That trend has continued today and we have our fingers crossed that the rain forecast will not reach this far north. We have received a number of calls regarding trails and conditions for this weekend, so I will remind everyone again - NO sledding on property managed by Wagner until December 15th. That goes for trails and back-country. We will be open on the 15th for lunch so be patient and wait just a few more days. I was sad because that horrendous wind & rain storm that blew through a couple days ago took most of our snow, but I'm glad now because this current weather pattern has already dropped about 3 inches of fresh snow with up to another 6 possible by the end of the day tomorrow.

Mike did finish the new snowmobile trail into Bosebuck this week and some of the club members were out installing a bridge yesterday so it should be good to go for the 15th if there is enough snow on the ground. We do now and will have active logging operations this winter north of camp, but with the new trail operating you will not be sharing with log trucks. Thanks to Wagner for relocating the trail!

He'll be tired, but very happy when he returns to camp late this afternoon.

Congratulations to one of our lodging guests, Bill, who tagged this 172 pound, 6 point buck on the 13th. We have 14 hunters in camp this week and they were all very excited to awake to snow on the ground this morning. It's not much, but enough to follow a track. We have spitting snow still falling with a current temperature of 26 degrees. If the forecast is correct, we may receive a couple more inches of snow overnight into tomorrow.

We started the day here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps with ice on the lake and temps in the low 20's. As I write this post, the sun has risen on what appears to be a beautiful day ahead with a current temperature of 27. The forecast is calling for temps in the mid to high 40's which doesn't bode well for the deer hunters who are all hoping for more snow to track in. We'll keep our fingers crossed for the white stuff to arrive and stay on the ground.

We have now registered eight deer this year with the biggest weighing in at 259 pounds. He was a monster with a nice 8 point rack. Although we have lots of cabins rented for the remainder of the season, we still have a few openings here and there so give us a call and we'll try to accommodate your request.

It was a frosty morning here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps with a low of 21 degrees. We have been fogged in for most of the morning but now that the sun has warmed the atmosphere the fog has lifted to reveal the view across the lake. As you can see, all the trees are covered in ice and soon the lake will be frozen too.

Bosebuck Mountain Camps is a State of Maine Game Registration station for turkey (yes, we really do have turkeys this far north), bear and deer open daily from 7AM to 7PM for tagging. Since opening day, I have registered four deer, all bucks of course, ranging in size from 119 to 146 lbs and all taken in Lynchtown. Where are you hunting this year? Why not Bosebuck? It's not too late to call and reserve your cabin, the season has just begun.

Well I guess that depends on your point of view. If you like to hunt or snowmobile this white stuff here at camp is a real treat. However, for those of you who prefer the warmer temps it's a trick.

Yes, we have a couple inches of snow on the ground with light snow falling at a current temp of 30 degrees. All you sled heads don't load up yet, this is just a reminder to tune those sleds up and prepare for the winter ahead.

It's opening day of deer season for Maine residents and the hunting god has graced us with a little light snow. Good luck to all you hunters! Remember we are a game registration station for deer and will be happy to weigh your trophy on our certified scale. The tagging station is open daily from 7AM to 7PM.

The current temperature is 32 degrees and the extended forecast for all next week is overnight temps in the 20's with the highs during the day of mid-forties. It's not too late to call and make your reservation for a week of deer hunting at Bosebuck. First snow of the 2010/2011 Season

Yes, this is the scene here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps this morning. The temperature is 30 degrees and we have light snow falling. I don't think we need to break out the shovels just yet, but it is certainly a little taste of what is yet to come. Before you know it, the sleds will be piling up in the parking lot with their riders looking for a good meal and a warm spot by the wood stove.

Our bird hunters have had some of the best grouse and woodcock hunting in years. Mother nature provided the perfect conditions this spring and summer with little rain and warm temps. They are now enjoying the result of those conditions with successful hunts.

If you haven't made your reservation for deer hunting yet, you should call soon. Llast year's mild winter and this year's conditions have given the deer the habitat they needed to thrive. Mike has seen lots of young deer in his travels through the back country this fall. He, of course, is not letting me in on his favorite hunting ground, but there is plenty here for everyone.

The beautiful colors of Fall arrived and are already fading here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. We have experienced several frosts which have hastened the foliage along. The bird hunters are here and although opening day was a washout with torrential rain and strong wind, the days that have followed have been absolutely gorgeous, just like today. All our hunters returned to camp yesterday with grouse in hand and a hearty appetite.

Remember that Bosebuck Mountain Camps is a deer, bear and moose State of Maine game inspection station and our scale has been certified. We are available to tag your harvest daily from 7AM to 7PM.

Mike is out working on the new section of the snowmobile trail which should eliminate most of the trail on Parmachenee Road north of camp. It should be ready for this season, so even if logging operations are still underway we won't be dealing with 3 miles of mud.

A number of things are happening at Bosebuck Mountain Camps over the past few days. First of all congratulations to Roger, Jr. and Roger, III on their successful bear hunt last week.

We have received a good bit of rain with cooler overnight temps so the water levels are up, the water temperature is down and both the fish and fishermen are happy.

We received our first frost of the season last night which makes Chad quite happy because he thinks he has mowed the lawns for the last time this year. Not so sure about that but little does he know he'll be shoveling that white stuff sooner than he thinks.

Mike of course has been out and about with the bear hunters over the past three weeks and is pleased to report lots of birds and a very healthy population of deer this fall. Unlike many other parts of the state, the deer herd in this area is very good. Yesterday completed week #2 of the 2010 bear season here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps.

Week #1 was completed by Will, age 10, who went home with his first bear and Charlie who was determined not to let his younger brother show him up.

This week, Travis and Mike are returning home having enjoyed their week of hunting which ended in a successful harvest . Congratulations to all!

Changing the subject, the cool nights and rainfall this past week is just what the fishermen have been waiting for. The water temperature is starting to cool and the levels are beginning to climb.

Bear season 2010 is well underway here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Even with these unseasonably warm temperatures our hunters have successfully harvested three nice bear. The largest of which weighed in at 369 pounds (309 dressed).

For you fishermen watching the water levels , we did receive a good bit of rain overnight and we are expecting to receive another batch tonight courtesy of Earl. The forecast is indicating that the majority of rain should arrive late tonight and continuing into the early morning hours. That should leave most of day and remainder of the long holiday weekend free to enjoy all outdoor activities.

I was finally able to scoot across the lake to the island and check on B9. As you can see from this picture he is alive and well. He has grown so fast I can't even believe it is the same little eaglet I held just a few short weeks ago. Mom & Dad are still close by for support and he took flight just after I snapped this photo.

Just as I was thinking it was time to pack up my shorts and short sleeve shirts, the weather has turned warm again. Right now it's 82 degrees with a nice breeze from the north, northeast.

Bear hunting season opens tomorrow and we are expecting our first group of hunters within the hour. Mike has been very busy preparing and everything seems to be in order.

Fall fishing reservations are filling very quickly, so please call ASAP if you are looking to catch that run up the river. It has been a fairly dry summer so the fish would certainly appreciate a couple days of nice rain to make the trip a little easier.

I can't believe it is the 19th of August and the last time I posted was on the first. Sorry to all our frequent web visitors for the lack of updates, but we have had a full camp for the past two weeks which keeps all the staff very busy. Remember you can always catch a real-time glimpse of us on the webcams.

Beginning tomorrow through August 28th, we will not be accepting any reservations for lodging or meals due to private functions.

The first of which is the Maine Chapter of Casting for Recovery (CFR), a member of the national non-profit, support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer. Well, here we are at the beginning of another month. Hello August! Bosebuck Mountain Camps has been overflowing with families enjoying the great outdoors and the same continues for another two weeks. Book early for next summer as we have had to turn many people away because we just didn't have anymore room.

The weather has been warm with very little rain, but cooler temps moved in yesterday with an extended forecast calling for the chance of thunderstorms over the next several days. For you regular visitors to the website, I'm sorry the weather station is not co-operating again. I'm doing my best to get it back online, so please be patient. Believe me, this technology frustrates me too.

For the fishermen waiting for the fall run, please note that effective immediately, we will limit the number of guests above the gates to no more than 12 per day in order to maintain the "exclusivity" of these remote areas and provide a quality experience for all our guests. Reservations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis but not confirmed until a 50% non-refundable, per person deposit is paid. Keys to the gates must be returned no later than the 11AM checkout on the day of departure.

Once the 12 slots are filled for a particular day, all future reservation inquiries will be advised that access above the gates has been filled allowing them the opportunity to book alternate dates if they wish to fish the upper Magalloway. Please keep in mind that there are many fishing opportunities below the Parmachenee gates as well.

Summer is in full bloom here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Thanks again Kathy for the beautiful flower boxes that are very happy on the front porch railing. The humming birds are enjoying the bee balm that has bloomed but our guests have to pass by with caution as you never know when one might come zooming by.

Camp is full with lots of families experiencing the great out doors Maine has to offer, hiking, fishing, kayaking and just plain relaxing on the dock. The pair of Adirondack chairs at the end of the dock is a favorite spot for many.

We have all been keeping an eye on the eagle that hatched across the lake. He's growing fast & furious and should be ready for his first flight in the next week or two.

These three little swallows haven't realized their own size just yet, but soon enough they'll figure out the nest just isn't big enough and they'll be on their way.

We have had a wonderful stretch of weather and although it makes fishing a bit more challenging, the families that are here at camp are enjoying the great outdoors without having to deal with rain.

I held a 4 1/2 week old bald eagle in my hands and here are the pictures for all to enjoy. Last summer I had the opportunity to hold a loon chick while the biologists banded the father, and I thought that was unbelievable, but holding this eagle was just unforgettable. He or she has been banded and will continue to be monitored, we hope, for many years to come. His/her parents nested this spring on an island just across the lake from camp and we have been watching and patiently waiting for the little one to arrive. All our anxious moments during heavy windstorms, lightning and cold nights were put rest when I held that little bundle this afternoon. He/she was very calm the entire time, not the least bit anxious or nervous. Once all the measurements were completed, weighed (6.6 lbs) and blood drawn, he/she was returned to the nest safe & sound.

Of course I could go on and on about the experience, but like they say.... a picture is worth a thousand words. Simple put, it was just GREAT!

Mike and I scooted out for a quick ride late yesterday afternoon and I spotted this mom with her chick. It's times like this that I would like to have had a zoom lens to capture the moment for all to see and share becuase this photo just doesn't do justice to scenery. We definitely do not want to intrude on their space. This is the first loon chick I have seen this season, but we have had several families of duck float by camp too.

The photography group was here this past weekend and thankfully the weather was much more cooperative this year than last. I should have a few photos to share with you in the next day or so. We are also discussing holding a photography "retreat" this fall to capture some of the beautiful foilage here in the western mountains of Maine. If you are interested in attending, send me an email. We are most likely looking at the middle to the end of September.

Dock (Duck) Boy

Our new dock or should I say duck boy was caught napping on the job this afternoon. If only I had the time to nap on the dock people wouldn't be making comments about my white legs.

Camp has been full for a number of days, but several of our guests checked out this morning so the staff will have a couple easier days ahead before the next wave arrives.

In addition to our lodging guests we had reservations from the general public for prime rib dinner this past Saturday bringing the total number of guests in Big Buck Dining room to 43 people. If you're in the area, give us a call at least 24 hours in advance (207) 670-0013 to join us for dinner at 5PM.

Happy Father's Day

One of our guests snapped this photo yesterday and I thought it conveyed exactly what all Dad's need... their sons close by, a boat, a plane and of course a reclining chair.

This is the day we honor all those men important in our lives. Take the time to say thank you and appreciate all they have done for you. My Dad has be gone now for 15 years, and although it was difficult at first, I'm comforted with the realization that his presence is still with me every day.

Another beautiful day here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps. Although we had our share of rain, the last few days have been nearly perfect if that's possible. Temps in the eighties with a lovely breeze off the lake to keep the bugs at bay.

Congratulations to the lucky Moose Lottery winners and for those drawn for Maine Wildlife Management District #7, keep us in mind. We offer a "one on one" fully guided hunt for $2,500 (plus tax, gratuity and license) that includes 6 days of hunting, 7 nights lodging and meals for both names on the permit. Prescouting, transportation during the hunt and field dressing included.

Fishing has been great both in the rivers and lakes. Camp is full this weekend with fathers and sons enjoying the best Maine has to offer for both fly fishing and trolling on the lake.

I also have to send a big thank you to Kathy for the beautiful flower baskets that now line the front porch railing of the lodge and are scattered about the grounds. I'll do my best to care for them all summer long.
