I think so, but it snowed here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps all day yesterday and we awoke this morning with a light accumulation of snow on the ground. We still have light snow falling and my daffodils are NOT happy.
The temperature at 8:30 this morning was 30 degrees, but rising so that's a positive thought. The fish seem a little confused as to what time of year it is due to the unseasonably warm temps in April and now the much colder weather that has decided to arrive in May. The fishermen have been having sporadic success and keep changing to different flies to entice some action. Warmer weather is on the way and perhaps this spell of colder weather will put things back on the "normal" track. But who knows, Mother Nature likes to mess with us some times.
I hope all the mothers enjoyed their special day yesterday. I received phone calls from both my boys by 9AM so I had a great day. Although it would have been nice to have them visit, a phone call still warms the heart and keeps them close.

PERFECTION! That is the only word I can come up with to describe the current conditions here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps this morning. The sun is shining in a brilliant blue sky. The temperature is already 57 degrees and the wind has diminished to a slight breeze. And, lest I forget, no bugs - yet!
The lake is high, but normal for this time of year so our guests scheduled to arrive today booked for cabin #1 will be relocated to cabin #6 so they can drive to their accommodations. Although they could sit in a rocking chair on the porch of cabin #1 and fish to their heart's content. Not sure how the casting would work out, but they could certainly wet a line and perhaps land a few small brookies.
Of course everyone here has been very busy ticking off items from the much too long spring "to-do" list but Mike and I finally took some time this past Sunday afternoon and went for a float plane ride with Keith from Acadian Seaplanes. It was incredible and provided Mike with an opportunity to see his hunting/fishing grounds from a new perspective. Thanks Keith! We did catch a glimpse of a mother bear with her two cubs who didn't appreciate the noise when we swung back around for another look. As we flew by she looked up, scowled at us and one of the cubs stood right up on his hind legs to investigate.

Let the fishing begin
Our first guests of the 2010 fishing season arrived yesterday in the midst of snow squalls and at times, whiteout conditions. However, the sun has risen this morning and the strong winds seem to have died down after sweeping the skies clear. The forecast is calling for temps in the sixties for the next three days so hopefully all will enjoy some great fishing at Bosebuck.
Thanks to everyone that helped us spruce the place up. We scrubbed, painted, hammered, raked and every other form of cleanup you can imagine. Of course we could not accomplish this all on our own so a big THANKS to Mom, Bill, Nancy, Jerry, John, Dickie, Chip, Michael, Dennis and of course our staff, Ann, Chad, Debora & Irene. If I forgot anyone, sorry but thanks!
Just a reminder of our dining hours for the spring season:
Breakfast 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM
Lunch 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Dinner 5:00PM - non lodging guests require at least a 24 hour advance notice

Re-Open April 29th, 2010

Yes, we will reopen early this year on April 29th. As you can see from the webcam pictures the boats have been registered and are in the water. Mike should have the docks in the water by the end of this weekend weather permitting. The lake is full, still rising but still pretty cold. We are in the process of re-finishing some of the floors in the lodge and hope to have a couple other major projects completed before our guests arrive next Thursday.
Of course I got hit the McAfee software issue so I was side tracked for about a day tyring to correct the problem. I'm stating now, with my fingers crossed, that I believe the fix is in place and functioning properly. You just gotta love these computers!

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words so here you go, April snow at Bosebuck Mountain Camps.
This photo will save me a lot of typing.
We awoke this morning to about 4 inches on the ground and it's still coming down as I write this post. NO, Dennis you can't ride your sled this weekend, snowmobile season is over. Just accept it and get your boat ready.
The entire lake is now free of ice so we will reopen for fishing on Thursday, April 29th. I registered the boats on Thursday and Mike is hoping to get the docks in the water this weekend although this unexpected snow may set him back a day or two.

They're back! The bald eagles, the loons and even the pair of Canada geese that think our front lawn is their personal toilet facilities. I guess the webcams don't bother them one bit. If the water keeps rising at the current pace, I won't need to worry about geese on the lawn because there won't be any.
Yes, the ice is gone from this end of the lake but the lower end still has some ice in certain areas. Nights have continued to be cold with sunny but cooler days so the water temperature has not risen. Also, the influx of snow melt and water from the upper rivers has contributed to the cold water temps. Believe it or not the extended weather forecast for this weekend is calling for accumulating snow Friday night and perhaps into Saturday. Good thing we haven't put the shovels away yet. Don't worry, if it arrives, it won't last long. Fishing season is just around the corner.
Speaking of fishing, call soon to secure your cabin for spring fishing. With warm temps south of here reservations are filling very quickly this year. Also, if you are contemplating a summer vacation at Bosebuck, please call ASAP as many weeks are already completely booked.

April has arrived here at Bosebuck Mountain Camps without any April Fool's joke from Mother Nature. The temperatures have been unseasonably warm just like most of the country, but the nights are still cold. As you can see from the webcams, we still have plenty of ice on the lake so no fishing just yet.
We have started on our spring "to-do" lists and this warm weather is certainly making it more enjoyable. Of course we are having a little fun too. Some of you may have seen us out playing with our grand-daughter who is here visiting for a few weeks. If only she was just a little bigger, we'd put her to work too! For now, we'll have to settle for having fun in sun.
